Are Pura Vida Bracelets Waterproof?

Trends in the world of jewelry come and go, and some stick around forever. For example, while slap bracelets were all the rage in the 1980s and 90s, they disappeared almost as quickly as they came onto the scene (yes, we know they attempted to make a comeback just a few years ago, but they never really took off, and let’s be honest – they aren’t exactly attractive or practical), while diamond tennis bracelets have been beloved for generations and are pretty much guaranteed to always be in-fashion.

There’s another type of bracelet that’s relatively new, and it looks like it’s going to stick around for the long-haul. No, they aren’t in the same class as diamond tennis bracelets, but they’re just as practical – actually, even more so – and they’re way more affordable. The bracelet we’re talking about is Pura Vida, of course.

In Spanish, ‘pura vida’ means ‘pure life’, and that’s the perfect name for these bracelets, as that is exactly what they represent. These handcrafted bracelets are fashioned out of string by artisans around the world. They’re available in an endless array of color combinations and patterns, offering a casual, laidback look that truly captures the individuality of the wear and celebrates the simpler things in life. In fact, it’s said that Pura Vida bracelets are more than just an adornment; they represent a mindset and a culture that celebrates the little pleasures that come our way and simply enjoying life to the fullest.

About Pura Vida Bracelets

Before we jump in and explore whether or not Pura Vida bracelets are waterproof, we wanted to take a minute to share some information about the bracelets and the company behind them.

The story of Pura Vida bracelets began in the summer of 2010. It was then that two friends from Southern California, named Griffin Thall and Paul Goodman, decided to celebrate their recent college graduation with a trip to Costa Rica. The duo fell in love with the breathtaking landscapes, were amazed by the incredible waves and surfing, and felt so welcomed by the friendly people. What they really loved most of all about their trip, however, was the laid back and relaxed lifestyle. The people of Costa Rica lived a lot slower, took the time to smell the roses, and appreciated the wonders and joy that life has to hold.

During their adventure, Griffin and Paul were riding some incredible waves in the crystal blue Pacific Ocean, when they met Jorge and Joaquin, artisans who lived in the area and were selling their handcrafted bracelets. The color and simplicity of the bracelets immediately caught the eye of the California natives, and they felt like they perfectly captured the simple way of life of the Costa Rican culture. The four men got to chatting, and Jorge and Joaquin revealed that they were having a hard time making ends meet and had to live with their families in a single room with just three beds.

Griffin and Paul were taken with Jorge and Joaquin’s kindness and their story of hardship touched their hearts, so in an attempt to help them find a way to help, they placed an order for 400 handcrafted bracelets. The artisans delivered the order, Griffin and Paul took the bracelets back with them to California, where they put them on display in a boutique in San Diego. In just a few days, the bracelets were sold out, and that’s when the pair realized that the bracelets were more than just colorful, simple jewelry; they were a movement that honored the beauty and simplicity of life. They decided to join forces with Jorge and Joaquin, and started a company named “Pura Vida”.

Since then, more than 800 artisans from impoverished nations have joined the Pura Vida mission, creating equally beautiful, one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted bracelets in an endless array of color combinations. The rest is history! Since its inception, Pura Vida has delivered countless bracelets to people around the world. In addition to the traditional string bracelets, they also offer a collection of other simple, yet stunning pieces, including metal bracelets, charms, necklaces, and collections of thoughtfully selected style packages, as well as packages that customers can hand-select.
